When (almost) everything is coming up roses 🌹 . . . .
Throwback to my planking days in Easter Island... Moai Style.
Santiago street art.
Had a magical time in the island of Chiloé. This long trip towards Cole Cole was a big reason why. We set up our tents in the backyard of this house where Nelson the owner made us a fire and offered up coffee in the morning before we continued our journey. He's lived there all his life and his campsite is called El Pudu. It's full of sheep, horses, and chickens.
20 hours of travel and I'm back on European shores - a little greyer in my current location than where I left! ☁️ Cannot wait for a hot shower and then a weekend in one of my favourite cities...
When a good trip must come to an end. 😩
Chile was allllll about the seafood 🐟🐡🐙🐠🦀 I have eaten very well this week. And have been so thankful for the hospitality and kindness of everyone we've been working with and meeting here - I've been invited to stay with people when (not if!) I come back to Chile, and I know it was genuinely meant. At the airport now, tired and extremely grateful for the magic of travel. And glad it's not quite over yet. One very important stop before home...stay tuned.
to one of my favorite cities: Valparaiso, Chile (2013). Here is one colorful cafe. The uphill walk is worth it...

Last day in Chile :( We've been in Valparaiso the last few days for a conference, and in the only free hour I had yesterday, I lost my mind exploring the colours and street art of this city in the hills. It's like a grittier (and much more interesting) Burano. Of course my camera battery died, but that's okay. Another good reason to come back. Strange indeed to be somewhere else when something bad is happening at home, but I'm very glad to be here and have seen this beautiful place 💙 . Edited to add: just realised that this is pretty perfect for the
! It's been a while since I played with @thisaintartschool, but Valparaiso has been full of inspiration! 🎨
Pink hour in Santiago 💜💕
I wasn't sure if I wanted to post such a cliché TdP photo but I like how tiny the man looks in the distance compared to Las Torres
I've been learning a few Spanish words and phrases while I've been here, but nowhere near enough to be able to properly enjoy bookstores like this 📚 I'll be going home looking for good (English-language 😏) things to read and watch about South America. Any recommendations?
Let's climb the cliff edge And jump again. • Torres Del Paine, Chile . These are the Torres Del Paine. Torres means towers in Spanish & Paine (pronounced PIE-nay) means blue in the native Tehuelche language. The hike up to these three towers is a cool 8 miles, that involves a great deal of uphill hiking and eventually "hand-over-foot" climbing of sorts. But, Let me tell you, trekking to the base of these beauties is worth it. I had 30lbs of camera equipment on my back and I barely felt it as I raced up the trail. The beauty that you are surrounded by to and from is indescribable. The best news is that Chilean President, Michelle Bachelet officially designated over 11 million acres in Patagonia as national park lands, effectively protecting this sacred place, forever. The largest conservation of its kind in Chile since 1960. Nature is so important, our public lands are invaluable and we should always treat them as such. They are the precious jewels of our Earth. We must do all that we can to protect them and to do that, it starts within each of us. It also starts in our big cities. What we do in urban areas, affects our open spaces, our country sides. Having an agency to protect us is important. So let's fight to keep ours. P.s. Torres Del Paine is Yosemite's sister park 💗. .
Heading from Santiago to Valparaiso for the conference proper, shortly. I don't think there will be as much exploration time there, so it's a good thing I took so many photos here! From the top of San Cristóbal, where there were amazing city and mountain views to be had //
I am so happy to be in Santiago, where the colours are bright, the ceviche is fresh, and the people are super friendly. Taking way too many pictures to be able to post them all just on my other account! 🇨🇱
The working portion of this trip sort of begins today. But it doesn't feel much like work when you're somewhere new and exciting, full of such beautiful colours!
